Wines » Reisling 2009
The 2009 Stafford Lane Riesling is created from 100% estate grown fruit, which is managed under Sustainable Winegrowing practices (SWNZ). Fruit was selectively handpicked early, to achieve more citrus notes in the wine, and a lighter, lower alcohol wine.
Once in the winery, after being chilled overnight, the fruit was gently de-stemmed before pressing, and a specific Riesling yeast strain was used. A hand's off approach was taken in the winery, allowing the wine to develop its own characteristics, and no fining agents were necessary. This wine received a gentle filtration prior to bottling.
We feel the Nelson District lends itself well to this style of Riesling, as we can achieve good fruit maturity at lower brix levels, and it also allows the fruit to be harvested before any disease pressure can set in.
On the nose there are lots of fragrant floral flowers, while on the palate there are limey, citrus floral aromatic flavours.
